Burn Victim - Still Critical In Hospital

LOGAN - Mrs. Le Vearn Lewis Day, 32 of Richmond, who was seriously burned yesterday in a fire that destroyed the home in which her family lived, continued to fight for her life today just as heroically as she rescued three small daughters from the second story of the flaming house.

Cache Valley hospital attendants said the latest report on Mrs. Day's condition is, "no improvement, and "still very critical." She js being treated for second and third degree burns about the arms, chest, back and head. and for a possible back injury.

Mrs. Day, wife of Lyman B. Day, was burned early Tuesday when the kitchen stove exploded as Mr. Day was trying to hasten the fire. Mrs. Day ran up the flaming steps to the girls bedroom and attempted to descend with the children, but was driven back into the bedrooms by the fire. She seized the eldest girl, Marlene, 7, and pushed her from the second-story window to the ground, Hearing the girl's screams, Mr. Day left the burning kitchen, and took his place under the window, and caught the two other girls, Joan 5, and Carolyn, 3, as the mother pushed them from the window Then Mrs. Day, severely burned as she was, jumped to the ground herself.

Damage to the four-room dwelling, which was owned by B. He Telford, Lewiston, was estimated by Fire Chief E. S. Laurence to exceed $2500, while damage to contents amounted to $600. The Day family had resided in the home, located two miles northwest of Richmond, for several weeks.
